| Description: Bassian
is situated on Raikot-Jagraon road. About 5 kms. from Raikot in Ludhiana
district. It is among the largest villages in Punjab.
History: According to a legend the village was first inhabited by three men. They were a Jatt - Uppal, a Muslim - Gujjar, a carpenter - Plaha. Also it is said that when Guru Gobind Singh ji were on His way from Machhiwara, Raikot, Lamma, Mukatsar He passed through this village.There is a gurdwara Satranj Sahib to comemorate His visit to this village. Their is a canal rest house, called locally as 'kothi' (now in a dilapidated condition) on the outskirts of the village, which finds mention in records that when son of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, Dalip Singh, was captivated by the English he was kept in this kothi by them. he youngs of this village are very energetic. The kabaddi team is one among the top teams of the area. Though village does not have a proper spacious playground. The village produced celebrated doctors,engineers,judges
and teachers.
